This recording mixes in all the monitor chatter between the band mates. At the end of Lazy River Road, there's this nugget that made me laugh out loud:

Jerry: "Bob...Bob...Pants, Bob, Pants. They're great, great. Where'd you get those pants?"

Hilarious. Sounds like Phil speaking to me, but hilarious either way, Jerry or Phil. Someone just needs to edit the word "capri" into that sentence.

Yeah wasn't quite sure if it was Phil or Jerry, maybe both. I listened like five times.

Very funny -- and amazingly, I managed to play it without buffering!!! (I've got to buffer for approximately the length of a song or YouTube clip before it will play uninterrupted.) Sounds like Phil to me, but the not-buffering ... that must be the Spirit of Jerry rising from the Ganges to grant some entertainment today :-)

Yeah (I listened too) I think it was Phil.

The Ganges yes - you are closer than most of us Western hemisphere types to Jerry today, eh!!!

And no matter what early-era-only folks say, Lazy River Road is a treasure. An ethereally beautiful song. Jerry's ravaged later voice is just right for it; sung by the younger Jerry it would not work.

Yes, I agree. It goes along with my theory about Hunter losing the muse for a while and then getting it back :-)

I also think Jerry could have sung it any time, but the ravaged voice does have a special sound. Don't like the synth sounds, though ... is that all Vince? I haven't listened to much from this time.

Yes, another pearl in the longest string of pearls I can imagine. My only quibble with your post - I think he could have sung it well in any era. His vocals always speak to me...

Could be. I just can't hear in my head how it would have sounded, I guess.

To part of him, anyway. The rest is in San Francisco Bay and, I think, a garlic patch.

Not to be supercilious or anything, but this IS (was) Phil, most defn...

If you listened to the early era, you'd hear enough banter to recognize them instantly.

Only post retirement do I make snarky posts like this...

But, you score one for getting me to 95 (yikes)...I didn't listen to the song, but only the last seconds prior to the next track.

Ha ha, well, tbh I listen to my fair share of "early era" but my tastes do tend to run more to 88-90, years when I was mostly in attendance. I've listened to a shit-ton of 1970 with plenty of banter, and I thought Phil's voice was deeper than what I heard on that recording, but like I said I wasn't sure.

Oh yeah--just pulling your leg...you might have missed the big argument over "Phil or Jerry?" during a piece of banter a yr or two past here at the Forum, and we decided early era folks had an edge since they used to talk so much more (they never did, or rarely, when I saw them, 74-82).

To me, Jerry is almost squeaky, and Phil is deeper, with a clipped cadence...

You know, if you did listen to the song, we wouldn't know about it :)
